Historische Ereignisse

  • 1896: Arthur Tolkien, der Vater J. R. R. Tolkiens, stirbt am Nachmittag in Bloemfontein und wird dort auf dem anglikanischen Friedhof beigesetzt.[1]
  • 1910: Tolkien spielt im Rugby-Heimspiel der ersten Mannschaft gegen Birkenhead School; die King Edward’s School gewinnt 20:0.[2]
  • 1915: Die Stapeldon Society hält eine Sitzung ab.[3]
  • 1932: Tolkien nimmt an der Gründungssitzung der Society for the Study of Mediæval Languages and Literature teil und wird in ihren ersten Vorstand gewählt.[4]
  • 1934: Tolkiens Gedicht The Adventures of Tom Bombadil erscheint im Oxford Magazine.[5]
  • 1938: C. A. Furth sendet Tolkien das Manuskript von Herr Glück mit Anweisungen zur Neuzeichnung der Bilder zurück.[6]
