Tarnost, Stadt in Gondor
Beschreibung
Tarnost lag an den nördlichen Hängen der Hügel von Tarnost im Lehen Belfalas im dortigen Gebiet Dor-en-Ernil. Tarnost lag etwa 33 Meilen südwestlich der Ethring-Furt des Flusses Ringló. An der Stadt führte die Straße vorbei, welche von Erech aus am Meer entlag führte.
Sonstiges
Die Stadt Tarnost kommt nicht im Roman Der Herr der Ringe vor, sondern findet nur in frühen Schriften Erwähnung, in welchen Tolkien den Reiseweg der Grauen Schar von Erech nach Pelargir schildert. Auch auf einer frühen Karte von Gondor ist Tarnost mit Bleistift eingezeichnet.
Etymologie
Die genaue Bedeutung des Namens Tarnost ist unklar, doch zumindest der zweite Namensbestandteil -ost stammt aus dem Sindarin und bezeichnet eine (ummauerte) Stadt, Festung oder auch Burg.
