Marton Csokas
  • 1906: Auf dem Gelände der King Edward’s School wird Athletik trainiert.[1]
  • 1912: Tolkien hält sich bis zum 1. Juli bei der Familie Gilson in Marston Green auf.[2]
  • 1913: Tolkien besucht mit Rob Gilson die Sportveranstaltung der King Edward’s School und wohnt bis zum 1. Juli bei dessen Familie in Marston Green.[3]
  • 1915: Captain Whatley bestätigt Tolkiens Militärantrag; Tolkien wird angenommen und erhält 50 Pfund für Uniform und Ausrüstung.[4]
  • 1916: Das 11. Bataillon übt Exerzieren und Bajonettkampf; Tolkien erhält als Fernmeldeoffizier zusätzlich Fachausbildung.[5]

  • 1959: Tolkien hält sich als externer Prüfer der National University of Ireland in Irland auf.[15]
  • 1960: Robert Burchfield hält fest, dass Norman Davis Fotostate von Ancrene Wisse bei Tolkien abgeholt hat; Tolkien will den ersten Teil selbst korrigieren und wünscht zwei Handschriftenseiten als Frontispiz.[16]
  • 1965: Joy Hill erinnert Tolkien brieflich an die unbeantwortete Aufführungsanfrage der St Edward’s School.[17]

  • 1972: Tolkien schreibt Brief 339 an den Daily Telegraph. Er weist die Verbindung seines Namens mit Düsterkeit zurück und verteidigt die Forstverwaltung gegen einen Vergleich mit Sauron.[21]
