Sie stand auf einem Gebirgskamm auf der westlichen Seite von [[Udûn (Mordor)|Udûn]]. Durch ein Straßensystem war sie mit den anderen Festungen des Landes, [[Barad-dûr]], dem [[Morannon]] und dem [[Turm von Cirith Ungol]], verbunden.<br />

Die Feste war zu dem gleichen Zweck erschaffen worden wie die [[Türme der Wehr]]. Sie sollte die Bewohner [[Mordor]]s bewachen und sie daran hindern, das Land zu verlassen. Um das Jahr 1640, als Gondor geschwächt war, wurde die Burg von den Wachen verlassen und stand viele Jahre leer. Nach [[Sauron]]s Rückkehr wurde sie in eine Orkfestung umgewandelt und erhielt die Funktion, den nördlichen Teil des Landes zu überwachen. Ihre Bedeutung dürfte dabei nicht allzu groß gewesen sein, da noch viele andere Orkburgen um Udûn errichtet wurden. Nach Saurons Niederlage im [[Ringkrieg]] wurde die Feste erneut verlassen und fiel in Trümmer.<br />
